Starving Amidst Plenty

Posted in Class Warfare, Economics, Socialism with tags , , on August 30, 2012 by b5blue

Excellent brain food courtesy of Daniel Greenfield.

Socialist or capitalist monopolies lead to rationing societies where production is restrained and innovation is discouraged. The difference between the two is that a capitalist monopoly can be overcome. A socialist monopoly however is insurmountable because it carries with it the full weight of the authorities and the ideology that is inculcated into every man, woman and child in the country.

We have become a rationing society. Our industries and our people are literally starving in the midst of plenty. Farmers are kept from farming, factories are kept from producing and businessmen are kept from creating new companies and jobs. This is done in the name of a variety of moral arguments, ranging from caring for the less fortunate to saving the planet. But rhetoric is only the lubricant of power. The real goal of power is always power. Consolidating production allows for total control through the moral argument of rationing, whether through resource redistribution or cap and trade.

The politicians of a rationing society may blather on endlessly about increasing production, but it’s so much noise, whether it’s a Soviet Five Year Plan or an Obama State of the Union Address. When they talk about innovation and production, what they mean is the planned production and innovation that they have decided should happen on their schedule. And that never works.

>snip<

I met a man once who told me that his greatest dream was to be feasting at a full table while outside hungry people pass by and look longingly through the window. This is the type of mindset that a rationing society produces. Its denizens instinctively absorb the idea that resources are finite and their competitiveness takes place at a zero sum level that is incomprehensible in any open society.

In a rationing society, people are certain that if another has something, then he came by it unfairly. And every group has an exaggerated sense of the material prosperity of other groups. This is not a bug, it is a feature. The rationing society deliberately cultivates a sense of unfairness to make it clear that individual efforts are meaningless and the only thing that matters is one’s connections to the rationers and the degree of mutual support from the group for the rationers and the rationers for the group.

Individual initiative is discouraged by a web of bureaucracy to make it difficult for individuals to act outside the plan. In a monopolistic system, rules and permits make it difficult for the individual to move forward. The permit regime also promotes corruption which makes honest enterprise almost impossible. Through these means the system restrains the micro, which is ordinarily too small to be properly controlled, while focusing on the macro.

Serving Rat-Fil-A in November Voting Booths

Posted in Class Warfare, Democrat Hate/Violence, Liberal Hypocrisy with tags , , , , , on August 5, 2012 by b5blue

Just a quick post to highlight the fact that others have noted the deeper impact of Chik-Fil-A day means a toasted goose for Obama.

To wit:

Even worse for the left what are the odds people willing to stand in line for hours to get a meal for the sake of principle will not stand in line to vote when November comes along?

So lets compare the responses.

Newsweek, the magazine that liberals have lost millions of dollars to support goes fishing for a story and as of right now has come up empty.

While Mike Huckabee little suggestion has resulted in record sales for Chick Fil A and has made a visible demonstration of the power of their supporters on this issue.

The ultimate irony, Thanks to Huckabee’s call and the response Chick-Fil-A may have managed to gross more money Wednesday than Newsweek lost all of last year and the profits they made today were fueled by individual customers who each spent more money on their meal than the selling price of the entire Newsweek franchise.

Patterico verbalizes what many of us have thought:

A tipping point may arrive: where I decide that the need to oppose terrorist tactics outweighs my desire to seek social justice.

I’m not there. Yet. But does the fringe of this movement really want to keep pushing me that direction?

And do you think I’m the only person having thoughts like this?!

Keep pushing us ya bunch of leftist jackasses.   We’re slow to anger but we’re far worse than a wet, cornered Bobcat in survival mode….and we have you outnumbered and outgunned.

Barack Obama and Harry Reid’s broken liberal souls

Morning dollop of reality based analysis courtesy of Eric Golub and The Washington Times:

Nothing is off limits when the Chicago way takes over.

Governor  Romney has been called a felon. His wife has been attacked. Now Senate  Majority Leader Harry Reid has taken the Democratic Party down deep into  the gutter by bringing up Governor Romney’s late father. He played the “dead card”.

The other day Mr. Reid said about Romney that “His poor father must be so embarrassed about his son.”

No amount of context washes away the stain of these vile comments.  This is what the Democratic Party of today has become. This is Barack  Obama’s America.

Some will say that Harry Reid’s comments (like everything else on  Earth) are not Barack Obama’s fault. Yes, they are. Barack Obama is the  head of the Democratic Party. Harry Reid is one of his top lieutenants.  Harry Truman said “the buck stops here.” If Mr. Obama had honor, he  would employ that same philosophy.

One phone call from President Obama is all it takes to get Democrats  to change their behavior. He certainly knows how to get to Dianne  Feinstein, Cory Booker, and any other Democrat who criticizes him  personally. When it comes to political opponents, Mr. Obama stays silent  while his associates traffic in slime.

Fascists of a feather commune together.

What Obama REALLY means when he says he ‘stands behind business’

Posted in Class Warfare, Democrat Memory Hole, Liberal Straw Men, Obama, Progressivism with tags , , , , , , on July 27, 2012 by b5blue

Your collectivism is still showing, Barry.  Juicy part:

To contain the damage of “you didn’t build that,” Obama cut a television ad this week, arguing he really does appreciate small-business men. “We need to stand behind them,” Obama said, “investing in education, training, roads and bridges, research and technology.” We know what government “investments” Obama likes to make in “research and technology.” His stimulus created taxpayer-backed loan guarantees for the likes of Solyndra, grants for geothermal energy, tax credits for alternative fuel, Internet subsidies, computer subsidies and so on. Obama still lauds George W. Bush’s law forcing people to buy more expensive high-tech light bulbs than they want to. Obama wants to require our utilities to use more expensive wind and solar energy.

When Obama says “we need to stand behind” businessmen, he means we need to subsidize them. We need to force people to buy what they are selling. And we need to bail them out when they fail. This is the “amazing American system,” in Obama’s eyes. And it’s one many Americans do not like.

Barry still hasn’t figured out the rules of digging and holes.  He’s enamored with shovels being ready,  I suppose.

Small Business owners build political backlash against Obama. Barry disagrees.

Just when I thought Barack “Ted Baxter” Obama couldn’t top (bottom?) himself with his ‘The private sector is doing just fine’ gaffe….his ‘You didn’t build that’  collectivist slip reminds us that Joe Biden is supposed to be there to provide some contrast.   At this point…. I’m not sure how much contrast The Gaffe Master Veep can offer.

Obama’s latest verbal harakari is stunning in its sheer political tone deafness.  Obama’s political strategy almost certainly calls for him to dictate the narrative….he can’t, though, as he continues to have to staunch the bleeding from self-inflicted political damage. That’s not even the worst part for Team Zero…. he’s providing the mother lode of political fodder and machinery for Romney.

Powerline outlines the sheer magnitude of the backlash of small business owners across the country and I’m not very sure if the Obama campaign fully appreciates the portentions of this backlash.  Small business owners have had to deal with a lousy business climate and regulations that have been made worse under the Obama administration and the pain -up until this point- has been economic.   These business owners have an immense amount of pride and personal sacrifice in their enterprise…to them their business is an extension of their very being… and President Obama just made it personal.  Not just economic.  Very personal.  These people will.  not.  forget.

Obama just opened thousands of political campaign outlets around the country for Romney and it’s not just political rhetoric for these owners.   It’s personal now.  Obama made his political coffin shovel ready in Roanoke.
