I’ve noticed an uptick in ideological patterns of grave illness in the body of modern liberalism… and a rash (medical pun intended) of articles by conservative writers (liberals do only fairy tales) has confirmed some of my observations. I’m going to cobble a few of them together for your reading pleasure.
1. Is Liberalism Dead? Courtesy of Roger L. Simon. I’d like to highlight the fact that Mr. Simon and I share the same sentiment about liberals as evidenced in his last two sentences.
Liberalism may not exist, but the lust for power does. And their need to cling to this power is so great they are willing to ignore reality and to forget their children, the ones who will suffer most from the economic cataclysm of their own ideology. They will literally do anything or say anything to maintain control. They will even contradict everything they stand for to survive.
But secretly – I am more than ever convinced — many of them know they are wrong. Our job is to bring them over. To make them comfortable. But we must bring them over soon before it is too late for all of us.
For those who believe this a futile attempt, I admit odds are long but I’d much rather reform a few liberal Americans than fight them at the expense of our republic. Indeed, I’ve seen quite a few former liberals start blogs dedicated to highlighting their journey.
Nice to see validation of my blog’s purpose espoused by someone with Mr. Simon’s stature in the conservative world. Extra beer for b5blue today. It’s that motivation thing, you understand.
2. Old Media is bleeding out right in front of our eyes. By Doug Ross.
Old media is literally committing suicide in front of our very eyes. In its desperate rush to see Barack Obama reelected, they are ignoring bigger and bigger stories. People have the Internet. They read The Drudge Report. They listen to talk radio. They read blogs. And in spite of all of these different access points, old media is ignoring blockbuster story after blockbuster story.
3. More evidence that the ‘stalwart of truth’ MSM is really just running interference for the liberal fairy tale. Emmett Tyrrell Jr. jacks one outta the park.
As I continue on my campaign, I am increasingly aware that what has changed in the country is mainstream media. They are less hospitable to conservatives. They act like a political party, an especially partisan party. Conservatives have emerged in media to express their point of view on major issues of the day. This is diversity of opinion that the increasingly partisan mainstream media cannot countenance, and so they say it is shocking. It is incendiary. It is closed-minded.
4. Cocooned Liberals Are Unprepared for Political Debate by Michael Barone.
But cocooning has an asymmetrical effect on liberals and conservatives. Even in a cocoon, conservatives cannot avoid liberal mainstream media, liberal Hollywood entertainment and, these days, the liberal Obama administration.
They’re made uncomfortably aware of the arguments of those on the other side. Which gives them an advantage in fashioning their own responses.
Liberals can protect themselves better against assaults from outside their cocoon. They can stay out of megachurches and make sure their remote controls never click on Fox News. They can stay off the AM radio dial so they will never hear Rush Limbaugh.
The problem is that this leaves them unprepared to make the best case for their side in public debate. They are too often not aware of holes in arguments that sound plausible when bandied between confreres entirely disposed to agree.
Very good article; go check it out.
I’d like to add one element to Mr. Barone’s cocoon angle…. even in a conservative work environment, liberals are protected by the cocoon of PC. A liberal can be very vocal about President Obama’s performance in a liberal or conservative work environ… but a conservative cannot do the same without negative consequence. Dissent can be evaporated by the careless charge of racism by the liberal. I’ve witnessed it myself.
Therefore, even in a work environ that should be favorable to a conservative or libertarian… it’s not favorable for robust discussion. The liberals continue to believe their fairy tale is true. Their evidence? Our silence. There are a couple of liberals in my workplace who still gush about Obama openly and the rest of us on the right just smile politely and move on.
When ideas for a point of view are not exposed to the sharpening stone of critical thinking, the ideology dies a bloody death at the expense of factual reality.
5. Speaking of racism… where were Al and Jesse when a bunch of whites were vandalizing and protesting some very successful black children? Really now. I thought one of the holier tenets of liberalism was a good education for the less fortunate in our society. That’s what is happening and what do these children get? Protests from moneyed whites and not a damned peep out of the Al and Jesse traveling road show.
No, for liberals, it’s not education of poor children… it’s power maintenance.
6.….b-b-b-b-b-but liberals care about the welfare of the poor man….right? Not so much. They feed rubes talking points with the express purpose of maintaining power. So, no, it’s not about helping Joe Lunchbox. Not even close.
7. Surely, history will show the progressives of the 20th century had it right…..correct? Uh, not so much Young Clueless One….go forth and read who are the real reformers.
Both the Homestead Act and the Morrill Act were blocked by Southern Democrats. In those faraway times, they were the ones with the stick-in-the-mud reputations. They, not Republicans, were the Abominable No-Men.
I would argue that, in many ways, they are again today the blockers of real reform. Republicans are the ones championing fixes to Social Security and Medicare in order to make them sustainable. Republicans are the ones pushing education reforms that include a complete overhaul of a root-bound system.
8. Women. What about women? Surely liberals care more about the plight of women than the right…. right? Sit down, this one is a double feature:
8A. The Democrat War on Women’s Paychecks can be found under ‘Shock and Awe’.
The 99% composite juicy part:
A group of Democratic female senators on Wednesday declared war on the so-called “gender pay gap,” urging their colleagues to pass the aptly named Paycheck Fairness Act when Congress returns from recess next month. However, a substantial gender pay gap exists in their own offices, a Washington Free Beacon analysis of Senate salary data reveals.
Of the five senators who participated in Wednesday’s press conference—Barbara Mikulski (D., Md.), Patty Murray (D., Wash.), Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.), Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) and Barbara Boxer (D., Calif.)—three pay their female staff members significantly less than male staffers.
Murray, who has repeatedly accused Republicans of waging a “war a women,” is one of the worst offenders. Female members of Murray’s staff made about $21,000 less per year than male staffers in 2011, a difference of 35.2 percent.
8B. Harumph… *cough* well surely we don’t treat women as badly as you neanderthals on the right do…. (meekly) right? Wrong again, quiz kid: The Left Is Just Fine With Misogyny, As Long As It’s Against Conservative Women
No, liberalism doesn’t really give a damn about the plight of women when it interferes with their power structure.
9. Babies. Don’t. Go. There.
If I have to explain the difference in the image above, you must be a registered Democrat.
10. Yeah, but liberalism is the ideology of facts….. right? Nope… more an ideology of fiction. Ask Noemie Emery how liberalism relies upon the fairy tale.
That’s enough for a Saturday morning. Got a garage to clean.
